Mount Sinai School Health Program
The Mount Sinai Hospital borders on East Harlem. This community has many uninsured and under-insured kids. Mount Sinai runs a School Health Program to help children and youth get the care they need to prevent and treat illness. We work with the East Harlem public schools to bring high-quality health care services to where kids spend most of their day.
We have a team of licensed doctors, nurse practitioners, social workers, and health educators. Our team delivers primary and mental health care, and preventative services. We see all students, kindergarten through 12th grade, regardless of insurance or ability to pay. Students or guardians must register to receive services. We can only provide first aid and emergency care to students who are not registered.
We currently have pediatric school-based health centers at four East Harlem school buildings that house eight schools:
- P.S. 38 and Dream Charter School
- P.S. 83 and Bilingual Bicultural Mini-School/P.S. 182
- P.S./M.S. 108
- Esperanza Preparatory Academy, Global Neighborhood Secondary School, and Talented and Gifted School at Tito Puente Education Complex.
We can refer students to Mount Sinai Hospital for specialty care and services not provided at the school-based health center.
